Shadows of the City
This story explores the many crosscurrents and complexities of life. We begin in Quebec. Michel is the youngest son of a French Canadian farmer. He is a young effeminate boy who is protected and supported by his mother. Now unprotected, after the death of his mother, Michel is sexually attacked by a perverted uncle. Michel chooses to run away from the farm and his uncle’s abuse. He ends up on the streets of Montreal. Michel comes to the realization he is transsexual and undergoes Gender Reassignment Surgery and becomes Micheline. Micheline marries a high ranking member of an outlaw motorcycle gang. The marriage is short lives, as a gang war breaks out and her husband is killed. Micheline flees to Vancouver to hide out. Micheline tries out several jobs to support herself, including prostitution. This is fine until she is badly beaten by a ‘client’. This changes her life forever. After her recovery and with the support of a backer she opens a French restaurant, which becomes famous. The story has many colorful characters.
